Choose the right time

It's important to choose the right time, before you offer any lifestyle advice.  You need to ensure the person you're talking with isn't in a hurry and you're somewhere the conversation won't be overheard.  We always say that MECC conversations don't necessarily have to be long, but it's best if the person isn't in a rush to be somewhere else!

When to start a lifestyle conversation:

  • During the normal course of your day to day contact with that person

  • When someone mentions a lifestyle behaviour issue in conversation (such as wanting to stop smoking)

  • When you can see that tackling a lifestyle behaviour issue would help someone meet their goals and aspirations
