Are you looking to volunteer?

If you’re looking to make a difference in Herefordshire and have some technology experience, AbilityNet needs your support!
AbiltyNet support older people and people of any age, who are living with a disability or impairment, to use technology to achieve their goals at home, work and in education. They also offer assistance to full time carers. They provide a range of specialist advice and training services and free information resources, which help to create a more accessible digital world for everyone.
If you have any technology experience or knowledge and want to volunteer in Herefordshire, you’ll be joining a team of over 300 volunteers across the UK, who provide one to one technology support to older and / or disabled people in their own home, helping with everything from computers and laptops to smartphones and tablets.
Don’t worry if you’re not a technology guru, even if you just use a computer at home or work or perhaps you support family and friends with their tech issues, then you’re likely to have the skills needed, which include:
- A passion to help others
- Good IT and computer skills
- Knowledge of standard operating systems and software
- The ability to communicate well with people
- A willingness to network across the county to increase the number of service users
- Patience and empathy
- Your own transport or good transport links*
The amount of time you will need to volunteer, is dependent on the level of demand in Herefordshire. However, on average, a volunteer carries out four hours a month, which is flexible and can be arranged around your home and work commitments, including in the evening or over the weekend.

* Please note: During the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of support is being offered remotely, as opposed to face to face.
