Homelessness prevention and housing advice
There's a vast range of information, advice and assistance available, both locally and nationally, to support your housing needs and, where possible, help prevent homelessness occurring.
Herefordshire Council offer a range of different housing and homelessness services, including...
- The Herefordshire Handyperson Scheme can make small adaptations to your home to help you live more safely and independently, such as ramps, handrails and door chains. In some cases, a small fee may be charged. The team can be contacted on 01432 260757 or email@example.com.
- The Housing Solutions Team provide advice to households experiencing housing difficulty in order to enable residents to evaluate their housing options and help prevent them becoming homeless, where possible. In situations where all alternatives have been considered and homelessness can’t be prevented, the team can offer temporary accommodation to eligible households.

The team operate a drop-in service for all housing enquiries, every Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. If you need emergency assistance outside of normal office hours, you can call 01432 261600. Please note that the out of hours service is only for those who are without a roof over their head in an emergency and are unable to access accommodation on that night.
- The Occupational Therapy Team can help if you’re having problems within your home, such as getting into your house, going up and down the stairs or using the bath. The team will work with you to suggest different ways you can make your home safer and more accessible. You can contact the team on 01432 260101.
- The Rough Sleeper Outreach Service operate every day from 7:30am to 5:00pm. The team work with those who are homeless to try and secure accommodation for them. You can contact the service via the Housing Solutions Team (see above details).
Home Point Herefordshire is a choice based lettings agency, run in partnership between Herefordshire Council and the county’s main housing associations. Home Point manage the social housing waiting list and advertise available properties within the county, although the allocation for each home is the responsibly of the relevant housing association. The team operate a drop-in service for enquiries, every Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 10am to 4pm.
Crisis work directly with people who are homeless to provide vital help, advice and support, depending on an individual's situation and needs.
EAC (Elderly Accommodation Counsel) provide assistance to help older people make informed choices about meeting their housing and care needs.
First Stop offer free and impartial information and advice to older people, their families and carers about housing and care options for later life.
Shelter provide advice, support and legal services to those who are struggling with bad housing or homelessness. They also have a free emergency helpline on 0808 800 4444, available 365 days a year, for people facing a housing crisis.
The Salvation Army offer a range of services to help those who are at risk of becoming homeless or are already experiencing homelessness.
