If you’re looking for ideas to help you and your family stay active and entertained during the summer holidays, there's lots of different activities and events taking place across Herefordshire.

Activities (indoor and outdoor)

Beach Party at the Hope Centre
Messy play, water play and holiday themed crafts - all at the HOPE centre in Bromyard on Monday 8 August from 10.30am to 12pm.  Suitable for 0 to 5 year olds. It's £1 per child, which includes the ice cream station.  Booking is essential, please call 01885 488495.


Broomy Hill Railway
Enjoy a family afternoon out riding on Hereford’s little railway, which is open on selected dates throughout July and August.

Dirty Feet Hip Hop and Parkour Summer School
An experience not to be missed, with breakdance, parkour, graffiti and rap, all at The Core in Hereford.  The summer school runs from Monday 1 to Friday 5 August (10am to 3pm each day). Cost for the week is £50.  Spaces are limited and on a first come first served basis, so book up quick. Book via the Dirty Feet Facebook page.

Eastnor Castle summer holiday activities
There’s a fantastic range of activities taking place throughout the summer holidays, all of which are included in your entrance ticket price.  Don’t forget, there’s also the Knight’s Maze, Junior Obstacle Course, Adventure Playground, Rope Swings, and much more for the whole family to enjoy.

Flip Out Hereford   
Enjoy some inflatable fun at Hereford’s indoor inflatable and adventure arena.  There’s a range of fantastic different activities and experiences to try, including sessions for those with disabilities or additional needs. 

Go Wild in the Park
A summer fun day, with family mini-beast exploration and botany for grown-ups!  A morning for families to discover the joys of bugs, creepy crawlies, and winged wonders, on Sunday 24 July at Belmont Country Park.

Green Spider Climbing
Enjoy amazing indoor climbing in Hereford’s climbing and bouldering centre.  There’s 1,500m2 of climbing to enjoy, with over 200 roped routes and over 60 boulder problems to accomplish, all with a great atmosphere, amazing music and friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Hereford Cathedral
There's a fantastic summer of family fun planned at Hereford Cathedral.  How about the Escape Room on Wednesday 10 August?  There’s also a Youth With A Mission Holiday Club, from Wednesday 10 August to Friday 12 August, for 5-11 year olds, with games, crafts and faith element, showing video and songs.
 
Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s Adventure Club
Go wild this summer with adventures in the woods!  On selected days between Thursday 11 August to Thursday 18 August, children can join the adventure and build a den, learn woodcraft skills, search for bugs and beasties, cook a snack on the camp fire and have fun playing games.  At Queenswood Country Park. Aimed at children aged 8 to 12 years; the cost is £20 per child. You must book in advance.

Kingsland Summer Holiday Club
With themed activities each day, surrounded by beautiful outdoor space, the Kingsland Pre-School Summer Holiday Club is open to all children aged 2 to 11. Based at the Coronation Hall in Kingsland, from Monday 8 to Friday 12 August, from 8.30am to 4pm.  It costs £30 each day (£25 for siblings). Letton Mill Dig, Leintwardine History Society 
Find out why and how archaeologists dig holes, go fossil hunting, take landscape walks and paint a picture, or make a working model water wheel.  There's a variety of activities for adults and children on the Letton Mill Dig site from 1 August to 20 August.  If you'd like to go along, email LettonMill@outlook.com.

MFA Bowl Hereford
Take advantage of a range of summer offers and get bowling with family and friends, whether it’s Monday Madness or 241 Thursday!

Newbridge Farm Park

Enjoy a fantastic range of events for children and families, throughout the summer, at Newbridge Farm Park near Ledbury.  There’s tractor rides, go karts, a zipwire, soft play barn and treasure hunt.  There’s also Pony ride days, on selected days in August - book online in advance to avoid disappointment.  Open from Monday 25 July to Saturday 3 September (not open on Sundays).

Oaker Wood Summer Holiday Club
Each day is different at the Holiday club.  From the high ropes challenges such as the zip wire and gladiator climbing challenge to the low ropes assault course, outdoor pizza making and target shooting.  The club for 7 to 12 year olds, runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the summer holidays.  The days start at 9am, ending at 3.30pm, costing £32.50 for the day. Booking can be made now through the website.

Oaker Wood Teen Adventure Days
High ropes and paintball offer an adrenaline filled day for 11 to 16 year olds.  On Fridays 5 and 19 August.  Bookings can be made through the website, for half or full day activities; £20 for half day and £40 for full day.

Queenswood Country Park and Arbortum
Get outdoors this summer with a visit to Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, with its extensive and exciting trails and attractions, suitable for all the family.  Don’t forget to stop off at Bodenham Lake too, it’s only two miles away and features two easy access paths around part of the lake.

Ralph Court Gardens

Journey around the world and through the seasons at the family friendly Ralph Court Gardens near Bromyard, with 12 unique gardens to explore from Italy to Africa and beyond into a mythical-fantasy world.  There’s a surprise around every corner and the gardens are suitable for all ages and are also wheelchair friendly.

Rooted Woodland Adventure Club
Join the Rooted Forest School at Lower Calver Hill Farm in Norton Canon for a fantastic adventure in the woods this summer!  There’s survival, art, woodcraft, fire skills, cooking, and games throughout August for children aged 6 to 12 (£30 a day from 10am to 4pm).  You must book online in advance.

SEND Family Fun Days at Hereford Community Farm
Meet friendly animals, try out crafts and activities, or just 'chill out' in the Bell Tent and orchard at Hereford Community Farm. The Family Fun Days are for families with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).  On Wednesday 27 July, Wednesday 10 August and Wednesday 17 August (11am to 2pm). Numbers are limited, so please pre-book to attend, by emailing herefordcommunityfarm@gmail.com

Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre
The centre is open every day from 10:30am to 5pm with no booking necessary.  It costs £11 for adults, £7.50 for children and under two’s go free.

Summer Fun Days at Herefordshire Children's Centres
From gardening to singing and everything in between.  There are Summer Special Fun Days across the county at the Children's Centres, suited to children aged 0-9 years (children must be accompanied by an adult at all times).  There's a Beach Day, Teddy Bear's Picnic and Play Village.   All of the summer events are free and there's no need to book!   For more information, check out the Herefordshire Children's Centres Facebook page.

Summer Fun - Picnic and Games
Challenge Community Church have some fun and games going on this Summer.  Take your picnic to Hunderton Green by the Scout Hut on Sunday 14 August, at 12pm.  Or to Belmont Country Park on Sunday 21 August at 12pm, for a treasure hunt. Any changes to the events will be announced on social media.

Summer holidays at Brockhampton
Switch off your screens and head to the great outdoors for a family expedition in the summer sunshine.  Explore Brockhampton's orchards with the children’s trail this summer. Follow the map, complete the fun activities and earn your prize at the end.  Pick up your trail sheet from Visitor Reception for £2.50.  Admission cost applies, booking not needed.

Summer Reading Challenge at Herefordshire Libraries
Get ready to be boggled by brilliant facts, gaze at the stars and be inspired by tales of creativity and invention.  Gadgeteers offers a summer of reading fun that will inspire you in to the world of fun science and innovation.  

Summer Trail at Croft Castle
Butterflies galore, in a wonderful parkland. Explore Croft Castle's gardens with the children’s trail this summer. Follow the map and complete the fun activities to earn your prize at the end. Pick up your trail sheet from the Visitor Reception for £2.50, from 10am to 4pm, every day throughout the summer. Admission cost applies, booking is not needed.

Talk Community and Halo Community Thank you Days
Free fitness activities with fun for all ages, at Halo sites across market towns, on selected weekends over the summer months.  How about trying yoga, badminton or aqua aerobics? There’s a few extras to keep the kids entertained (and the big ones too).  There's no booking required - check out the Talk Community Directory for what’s on where.

The Cart Shed Escape to the Woods
Fun-packed free summer holiday clubs for children of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces.  A chance to build dens, create shelters, try your hand at bush crafts and green woodworking skills, and some outdoor cooking. From 1 to 25 August, on Mondays and Tuesdays for 5 to 8-year-olds, and Wednesday and Thursday sessions are for 8 to 12-year-olds.  To book, visit The Cart Shed website.

The Core Summer Skate Camp
This year’s amazing Summer Skate Camp takes place on 25 and 27 July and 10, 23 and 30 August.  It costs £23 per child (£28 with lunch) and includes skate hire and teaching.  The minimum age is seven and it’s open from 10am to 3pm.  To book a place, visit www.skatehereford.co.uk.

The Cracked Slipper Summer Workshops
Free drama workshops for 10 to 18 year olds at The Kindle Centre in Hereford. A great chance for young people to get involved with creative script writing, and the chance to highlight a campaign that’s important to them and their community through drama performance and a short filmed campaign advert. The Courtyard Inclusive “Be a Star” week
A week full of drama, dance and arts & crafts activities!  The inclusive workshops at the Courtyard Theatre run from Monday 15 to Friday 19 August, and are for ages 8-15.  It’s £100 for the week, or £50 for half days (10.30am-1pm). The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction
Discover the Tardis, Daleks, props and costumes from TV shows, such as Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Thunderbirds and much more, at the amazing museum in Bromyard, dedicated to the world of science fiction!  You can purchase a family ticket for £25 (2 adults and 2 children).

Wellbeing Youth Cafe
A great way for young people to get involved and help design a cafe, for themselves.  The Hub in Peterchurch are working alongside youth workers from the Strong Young Minds project to launch a wellbeing cafe for young people.  The cafe runs on Thursdays at The Hub during the summer holidays, from 4pm to 6pm.  E-mail: info@hubcommunity.org
 

Arts and crafts

Eastnor Pottery’s Clay Modelling Family Fun 
Clay Modelling Family Fun sessions throughout the summer holidays on Tuesday 26 July and Wednesdays 10 and 24 August.  It costs £25 per person and children under 12 years must be accompanied by a fee paying adult.

Glazydayz

Get creative in Ledbury’s paint your own pottery studio with family or friends.  You must book in advance during the summer holidays.

Kingsland Flower Show
If you live in Kingsland, get creative and enter this year's Flower Show competitions with your trug of vegetables!  There are lots of classes for flowers, arts and crafts, cooking, photography and more!  Plenty for the kids to have a go with, and enter too.  All entries are free. The show is on Saturday 6 August, but you must submit your entry form by 4pm on 5 August to Kingsland Post Office or Stone Mill, The Wardens, North Road, Kingsland. 


Cooking

Growing Local’s free family cook workshops
FULLY BOOKED.  Fancy a slice of pizza and fruit sundae? Cook your own tasty, healthy lunch and enjoy eating it together at the end of the free summer holiday workshops.  At The Kindle Centre in Hereford, running from 10am to 1pm on selected days. Pop Up Kids Kitchen Sessions
Fun, free and relaxed sessions, cooking delicious food to enjoy together!  You and your children will be talked through each step of making a simple but tasty meal which you'll share together with the group.  The kids get involved in every step, from the chopping and mixing, to the washing up!   At Barons Cross Community Rooms in Leominster on Wednesday 3 August and Thursday 18 August.  The sessions are normally aimed at under 5s, but everyone is welcome during the school holidays!  Booking is essential, through the Kids Kitchen website.



Creative learning

Hereford College of Arts Creative Workshops
There’s a fantastic range of creative workshops taking place throughout the summer holidays, for secondary school students who love the arts.  Whether it’s painting and drawing, design, media, music or performing arts, there’s something for everyone.  The workshops are £25 each and are split into years 7 to 9 and 10 and 11.  You must book in advance online.


Festivals, Fun Days and Carnivals

Family Fun Day for Free - Ledbury

Go on a treasure hunt, have a go at games and sports, arts and crafts, and enjoy music, a free BBQ and cake!  All on the Rec in Ledbury on Saturday 20 August from 12pm to 4.30pm.  All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Hereford River Carnival
Make Waves at this free community event, with loads of fun and entertainment.  Floats, boats, and watery fun, all along the riverbank.  From the evening of Friday 26 August, with Saturday 27 August being carnival day. Hereford-on-Sea will appear, with the fantastic procession on the streets, fun fair, indie food village, craft workshops and traditional games. Something for everyone.

Knighton Show and Carnival
Exciting main ring acts, music acts and stalls attending.  On Saturday 27 August.  Check out the Facebook page for details.

LakeFest

This year’s family friendly LakeFest takes place from 11 to 14 August, in the beautiful surroundings of the Deer Park at Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury.  If you’re ready for a natural paradise, rocked with music, powered by love, then book your tickets today at www.lakefest.co.uk.

Ross Regatta
The Ross Regatta brings boat crews and spectators from all over the country.  It’s held over the August bank holiday weekend, Saturday 27 to Monday 29 August, with dragon boat racing on the Saturday.



Sport, exercise and dance

2FacedDanced Summer Intensive
Experience the fun, energy and creativity of dance training provided by top industry professionals.  Taking on exciting choreography, and ending in a performance at the end of the four days!  The Summer Intensive is open to 7-11s and 12-18s, from Monday 15 August to Thursday 18 August.  The cost is £50 for all 4 days or £15 per day. There’s also 5 free places available for the full 4 days – contact education@2faceddance.co.uk to enquire.

3Degreez Allstarz Summer Holiday Cheerleading Camp
Tumbles, stunting, dance and jumps. The Cheerleading camp at Hinton Community Centre is full of fun, games and skill building.  The camp takes place from Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 July. It’s

Change4Life’s Shake Ups
Get the kids moving and having fun this summer, with fantastic new Shake Up games and activities from Change4Life, featuring your favourite Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters!

Gorsley Goffs Football Camp
In addition to the holiday club this year, there’s a football camp on Friday 29 July and Friday 19 August, from 10am to 3pm, at Gorsley Goffs Primary School.  The cost is £12 per session.    

Gorsley Goffs Holiday Club
The Prostars Holiday Club provides a range of sports, games, arts and craft activities in a fun, safe and social environment at Gorsley Goffs Primary School.  The club runs from Monday 25 July to Thursday 28 July and Monday 15 to Thursday 18 August from 9am to 3pm (£18 a day or £65 a week).

Halo Leisure’s Summer Holiday swimming
This summer, take advantage of free swimming lessons for children, at Halo pools across the county.  There's different swimming strokes to learn, and sessions for different ages - there's also some snorkeling and diving too.  Booking is now open - call the centres at Hereford, Ledbury, Leominster or Ross-on-Wye.

Melody Dance Company Summer Camp
Learn a new Street Dance routine, participate in team games including rounders plus enjoy a free packed lunch to take home.  Sessions will be held at Hinton Community Centre in Hereford from Monday 1 to Friday 5 August; and at Earl Mortimer College in Leominster from Monday 22 to Friday 26 August.  The mornings are for children aged 5 to 8 years, and the afternoons for 9 to 16 year olds. Children don't need to already attend the dance school to take part.  Booking available through the website.

React’s Trampolining Summer Club
Join React Club's fantastic summer trampolining programme from 26 July to 23 August, with morning and afternoon sessions available (8:45am to 12pm or 12:45pm to 4pm) for £12.50 per session.  You must book in advance.

Summer Classes - Mum and Baby / Toddler Yoga
Relaxation with your little one, at the Children's Centre in Ross-on-Wye.  On Tuesday 16 August, there's Mum and baby yoga from 1.30pm to 2.30pm; and Mum and toddler yoga and sensory play class from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Young Boots Summer Football Academy
There's stacks of fun, the chance to meet new people and learn new things, at this summer football academy in Bartestree. It’s £16 for the day (8.30am to 3pm), on selected days in August.
