Studying English and maths - Post 16

Using a laptop to study

If a student leaves school without gaining GCSE English and maths at Grade 4 / C or above, they're now required to continue studying these subjects, as part of their ongoing education or training.  This includes those who are:

  • Aged 16 to 18
  • Aged 19 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan
  • Starting a new study programme of 150 hours or more

To find out more about how you can continue studying these subjects, until you obtain the required grade, speak to your school sixth form centre, college or training provider.
