Children with medical needs (5 - 16 years old)

Your child may experience ill health at some point during their time in schools or may have an ongoing medical condition that could affect their ability to have full access to education, including school trips and physical education. In most cases schools are able to provide the right support for your child but in exceptional cases additional support may need to be provided.

It is the responsibility of the school's governing body to ensure that arrangements are in place to support pupils at school. Please refer to the Department for Education website for guidance  on  support for pupils with medical needs

More information about the how schools can support children with medical needs  can be found on the support for children with medical needs section on the Herefordshire Council website. Herefordshire Council's draft policy on 'Education for children who cannot attend school because of their health needs'  is available on the council website.

The Hub, Home, Hospital  Teaching Team (H3) supports schools with children and young people who are unable to attend for physical health or mental health reasons.  Referrals are required from a consultant paediatrician or from a consultant from Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHs).
