Free events during Dementia Action Week!

Dementia Action Week is an annual event to raise awareness and encourage people across the UK to take action to improve the lives of people with dementia. This year, it takes place Monday 16 – Sunday 22 May.

With over 900,000 people in the UK who have dementia, it’s really important for people to come forward for guidance and support, and feel empowered to take the next steps towards diagnosis.

Next week in Hereford there’s lots of events offering engaging activities, awareness sessions and opportunities to socialise for anyone who is affected by dementia.

All the events below are free and the information has been provided and collated by charity Dementia Matters Here(fordshire).

What’s on?

Social session with Dementia Matters Here, Monday 16th May 9-4pm

High Town, Hereford

CAMBUS – Raising awareness and reducing stigma regarding dementia across the county. Provides a social space to share coffee and cake whilst also accessing a range of information and support for people experiencing memory issues, their families, and carers.

Drop in session at the Veteran Support Centre - Monday 16th, Wednesday 18th, and Friday 20th May between 9am and 5pm.

Drop-in for veterans and members of the public living with dementia. Visit and view their art exhibition!

Therapy sessions with Yeleni Therapy and Support - Monday 16th May 10am to 2pm

2, Blackfriars St, Hereford, HR4 9HS

Yeleni is offering 20-minute therapy sessions, booking is essential. Please choose from the following options: Indian Head Massage, Reiki or Reflexology. To book, please contact 01432 342342 or info@yelenisupport.co.uk

Activities at Hereford Community Farm - Tuesday the 17th May between 1pm and 3pm

Breinton HR4 7PF

Enjoy our large and small animals or make something simple in our Eco woodworking provision, whilst listening to relaxing music. Bring your own picnic, light refreshments provided.

Arts and crafts at Challenge Community Church.  17th May 2pm to 4 pm

Meet new people, get inspired and get crafting in our welcoming session.

Coffee afternoon at St Martins Church - Tuesday the 17th May 2 to 3.30pm

Come along and meet our group, make new friends and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Visit the tranquil Hereford Cathedral Cloisters - Tuesday 17th May and Thursday 19th of May 10 to 11.30am

Hereford Cathedral are inviting people living with dementia, and individuals or groups who support those living with dementia, to visit the tranquil Cathedral Cloisters during Dementia Action Week. Please book via the Hereford Cathedral website.

Activities and information, with a Dementia Friends awareness session - Tuesday 17th May 11 to 3pm

St. Johns Methodist Church. St. Owen St, Hereford, HR1 2PR

Ross Meeting Centre are providing activities and information. Light refreshments are available. There's a Dementia Friends Awareness session at 1.30pm. Session is approximately 45 minutes.  All welcome. 

Coffee morning at Challenge Community Church - Thursday the 19th May to 10 am till 12 o’clock

Meet new people, make new friends, socialise and grab a cuppa! Everyone is welcome.

Singing for the Brain session with Alzheimer’s Society. Wednesday 18th of May, 10 am to 12pm

Saxon Hall, Hoarwithy Road, Hereford, HR2 6HE.

Singing for the Brain brings people affected by dementia together to sing a variety of songs they know and love, in a fun and friendly environment. We also do vocal exercises that help improve brain activity and wellbeing.

Dementia Friends awareness session and afternoon Tea Dance with Dementia Matters Here and Hereford City Council - Thursday 19th May 10 am to 4pm.

Come along and learn about Dementia Friends at our 11am Dementia Friends Awareness session. Later in the afternoon, get your feet tapping between 2pm and 4pm at our Tea Dance with Rachel Freeman!

Art class and exhibition with Paul and Karen from Art 4 Veterans - Thursday 19th May 11am - 2pm

Art lessons/Exhibition, using acrylics/graffiti or drawing. Come and see what we do.

Coffee morning with Aspire Living - Saturday the 21st May Between 10 am 12 o’clock

Aspire Living, St. Owens Centre, Symonds Street, Hereford HR1 2HA.

Come and join us for coffee and biscuits in our friendly hub.
