Close House

Close House is a Youth Centre in Hereford.  We help young people aged 11 to 24 to become mature, be helpful and grow hungry for a full life.

We offer a safe space for young people to access activities, groups and services.  We provide opportunities to get creative and expressive through our Art and Music After School Workshops or to become engaged within the community via our EPIC Volunteering Programme.

All of our projects aim to be Safe, Supportive and Inspiring.

Safe: Young people should be free to enjoy their youth; free from risk-taking behaviour, free from risk taking behaviour, free from abuse. At Close House drop-in centre we have pool tables, games consoles, arts and crafts, musical instruments, outdoor games and internet access. And everything’s free.

Supportive: Projects are staffed by qualified and experienced youth workers who provide informal support on anything from school and family to drugs, relationships and healthy living.

Inspiring: The staff team and partners put on workshops, activities and showcases that include a variety of exciting themes, including media, music, arts, cookery, games tournaments, home skills, volunteering and community action.

Helping young people

We aim to break the cycle of negative experience and behaviour that some young people face, helping them find hope and aspiration and enabling them to control the direction their own lives take.

The vast majority of the young people using Close House are vulnerable, disadvantaged or socially excluded. We work with a large number who experience homelessness, mental health issues, substance misuse, have minor criminal records, are not in education, training or employment or who have suffered abusive childhoods. With good support, positive activities and opportunities to get creative and expressive, these young people can change their story to one of hope and optimism.

The EPICs

The EPICs are a movement of young people who refuse to be idle or let their community label them as misfits or hoodies. They set out to show that they are Energetic, Positive, Informed and Creative, and can be found at community events across Hereford throughout the year, bringing energy and fun wherever they go.

The EPICs are supported by Close House youth workers, who look after all of the safeguarding and health & safety responsibilities, making sure that teenagers can engage with the community safely and meaningfully.
