The Cart Shed

The Cart Shed, is a registered charity, based in Herefordshire, providing tailored therapeutic support in a woodland setting.

The Cart Shed’s clinical team of Occupational Therapists and qualified mental health practitioners have created a safe supportive environment from where they:

  • help those experiencing an imbalance in their lives to heal, learn new skills, find friendship and a future.
  • provide opportunities for communities and individuals experiencing social exclusion through disability, unemployment, age or economic disadvantage, by offering a series of training programmes to facilitate progression towards the employment market.
  • provide volunteering and employment opportunities to the local community.
  • lift the aspirations of people with mental health problems and learning difficulties and those who support them.

We work outdoors, all year-round, whatever the weather to enable adults and young people learn to live well and manage their emotional and physical health and wellbeing, in a sustainable way. Our woodlands lend themselves to enabling individuals to overcome and accept episodes in their lives they find difficult to live with, such as the loss of a partner or close friend, difficult working conditions or poor health.

We work with individuals from all backgrounds, lifting labels and minimizing stigma. There are no walls, badged health professionals or waiting rooms....just the peace of the woodland.

Our outdoor activities throughout the year, include:

  • Coppicing and woodland management
  • Making coppice products
  • Basket making and plant supports
  • Green wood-working and craft skills, using traditional hand tools
  • Horticulture, learning how to grow fruit and vegetables
  • Cooking on an open fire in the woodland kitchen
  • Creating structures for sites, including benches, shelters and fences
  • The opportunity to gain qualifications
  • Walking

You will be supported by our professional team of Occupational Therapists, tutors and volunteers, who will help you address and overcome a wide range of issues that may be preventing you from coping with life.

For self or professional referral, please contact us for funding details.

Volunteering opportunities

We are currently looking for volunteers to drive our minibus. For participants with no access to their own vehicle, our volunteer drivers are their only method of transport to and from The Cart Shed.

If you love driving and can spare a little time, this is a fantastic way to get involved with your community. If you have a full, clean category D1 driving licence, get in touch today. We will organise the MiDAS training for you and provide a full induction.

Contact us on 01544 318231 or info@thecartshed.co.uk.
