Libraries Week 2-8 October 2023

02 October 2023

Libraries Week is chance to celebrate the work that libraries do and the pivotal role that they play in supporting life-long learning. Anyone of any age can join the library, it is completely free and you don't need to live in Herefordshire to join!

In 2023 Libraries Week becomes Green Libraries Week, with a focus on sustainability and climate change. Herefordshire libraries have a large collection of texts exploring these themes from ‘growing food for free’, to a ‘guide to green parenting’ and beyond. Drop into your local library to explore the collection or find out how to reserve or request a particular book here.

In celebration of Herefordshire Libraries, here’s a quick rundown of some of the services that they have on offer:

The Squirrel club

Help kick-start your little one’s love of books by signing them up to the Squirrel Club, it’s completely free!

Pick up a free collector card from your local library and join squirrel on his reading journey. Collect a sticker every time you visit or borrow a book. When you collect all 4 stickers, you get a story book to keep personalised with a squirrel club bookplate featuring your child’s name.

The Hay Festival Player

Spark your child’s imagination with a talk from their favourite author! The Hay Festival player has a large catalogue of authors discussing their books at the Hay Festival.

Libraries Home delivery service

A free service for people who are unable to visit their local library. The service delivers library items to your home every six weeks. You can request up to 20 books or audiobooks from the categories offered and library staff will select titles on your behalf and deliver them to you. Find out more here.

BorrowBox

Read or listen to titles in eBook or eAudiobook format for FREE with your Herefordshire library card. Find out more on the Herefordshire libraries webpage.
